In the 1840s the Bristish had won the first opium war against China and not only took over Hongkong as a British colony but also colonized the major ports of China mainland one oft hem being Shanghai. They created the so-called Bristish Concession“, built churches, clubs and a horse race course in order to feel at home.
This walk will lead us through the area where they used to live, work and play. A stroll through 100 years of colonial history and along many milestones of Shanghai.
